Mares

Our broodmares are fed a diet formulated by Ph.D. Dr. George Dawson to ensure that all nutritional needs are met. Mares and foals have access to pasture, sunshine and are ridden or ponied on the trail through their pregnancies. Foals are well handled and by the time they are weaned, are registered with the WPCSA, Lifetime USEF and USDF and may have been shown in a DSH class or inspected with one of the registries in which Cardi is approved.

Rose Lane Victoria
2005 Welsh Cob Mare 14 HH
RPSI Book 1 PREMIUM MARE, 7.7

Toria was purchased as a weanling for her strong cob type, kind temperament, and extreme movement. She has proven to be a perfect match with Cardi, foaling Winterlake Versace in 2009--exactly the kind of sport foals I want to produce. Inspected with RPSI as a 4 y.o, Toria did extremely well and with Versace at her side, sired by Cardi, he was rated Premium Gold with an 8.7 for movement. She will be put in foal in 2010 for a 2011 baby.

Stagecoach Chloe

Stagecoach Chloe
2001 Welsh Cob Mare 14.3 HH

Chloe is the last in her line with her fabulous bloodllines. It's not often one finds a cob mare who moves like a warmblood; Chloe does. Her incredible sit-down, pushing-through-from-behind trot makes her natural uphill movement perfect for any sport discipline. It is because of Chloe's pedigree, especially strong on the damline, that she was chosen. Started under saddle as a 6 y.o., she was easy to start and is a star in the dressage ring and on the trail. Anyone can ride her. I anticipate that Chloe crossed with Cardi will produce the kind of temperament and movement I want to see in all my cobs. Chloe is due to foal in April 2010.

Coco Chanel
2001 Thoroughbred Mare 15.2 HH

This lovely TB sport mare is extremely sweet, big moving, and will add size and warmblood type to Winterlake's offsprings. I am grateful to acquire Coco from Linda Howard, and appreciate the training under saddle and trail miles Linda put on Coco. She was highly trainable at 8 years old and I'm very much anticipating the foal she will produce with Cardi in April 2010.

*Okeden Jolly 1985-2005
Welsh Cob Mare
(Trevallion Telynor x Okeden Gorse by Llanarth Meredith ap Braint)

Foundation Mare, imported at 5 months. Jolly was the first of my cobs to dip her hoof into the dressage pond, winning Reserve Champion Training Level in a class of 25 with a 71% in 1991. She was a Champion inhand in the UK and US and won the US Dressage Federation Welsh High Point in 1991. She had 8 foals; 5 of them lived. Winterlake Alexander went on to be a herdsire for the Wyvere Stud and topped the Sire Ratings in the U.S. in 2003 over 9 imported Welsh Cob Stallions. She is missed every day.

To me, fair friend, you never can be old, For as you were when your eye I eyed, Such seems your beauty still. ~ William Shakespeare

Hastening Mirage
1984 Section D Welsh Cob Mare
(*Bayford True Patriot x *Kentchurch Bonny Mae)

Produced many In Hand and Performance Champions, including 7 full siblings. Pictured at age 20 after winning a large mare class at the Gold Welsh Show, NW Classic, under UK judge. Mirage is dam to North Forks Cardi and aunt to mare Stagecoach Cloe.

North Forks Tickle Your Fancy
1991 Section C Welsh Cob Mare
(*Synod Gladstone x Penrhyn Nutcracker)

At just under 12.2 hh, this dynamo of a mare has produced champions, has won in performance been an in-hand champion and been a high point winner. In 2006, Tickle was American Sportpony Registry inspected and named Site Reserve Champion behind her own colt. Tickle was originally purchased by Grazing Fields Farm and when the farm dispersed, she eventually found her way to Winterlake. She produced three outstanding sport ponies for me, who are now making their marks in Washington and New York.
